I had the pleasure of interviewing Donna Edmunds for our first NCF Locals Substack interview. For those who might not be aware, Donna was recently subjected to an almighty internet pile-on that even featured Elon Musk. However, this was very much the result of a serious misunderstanding of Donna Edmund’s motives. Far from laughing at the victims of the rape gangs, Donna had actually put her own money into setting up an organisation that actually helps survivors. After attempting to assist with the Restore party’s Rape Gang report and subsequently being rebuffed, it was her reaction of frustrated exasperation that was deliberately reframed to suggest malevolence on her part. Yet nothing could have been further from the truth. Donna continues to work in a very practical way to help the survivors of these criminal gangs to work through their trauma.
As many will have gleaned from her essay published on this Substack recently, (If the right Wants to Win, It Needs to Get Organised, 24th June), Donna has worked incredibly hard to build a roadmap for what we might call a right-leaning coalition. The main problem it would seem however, is getting some people to recognise that there is, or should be such a coalition. Her thesis is broadly this. The Right focuses on winning elections whereas the Left has built an ecosystem. We need to learn to do this if anything is to change. Caroline Kaye is an independent researcher and essayist. She is a Locals organiser and volunteers as associate director of the NCF Literary Festival, in addition to editing this Substack.
